Reading without a campaign log
Draw cards for your table without filing the result under a campaign log.
Saved readings without a campaign log are deleted automatically 7 days after they are drawn. Readings filed with a campaign log are kept.
How tarot readings work
Where the cards come from
The tarot deck comes from Return to The Circle Undone, the Return to box for The Circle Undone campaign of Arkham Horror: The Card Game by Fantasy Flight Games. It is the 22 cards of the Major Arcana, each with an upright and a reversed effect. The reading types Chaos, Balance, Choice, Destiny and Custom are the ones printed in that box's rules insert. Observed follows the Observed card instead, and it is not filed under a campaign log.
Card names, rules text and art are © Fantasy Flight Games.
Minor Arcana and custom art
The Arcana button in the bottom corner adds the 56 Minor Arcana: Major only (the official deck), Major + Minor, or Minor only. The minors are an Arkham606 addition with their own upright and reversed effects, shown in a box under each card once the reading is revealed.
With minors in play, more reading types appear: Standard (a major and a minor turned the other way), Choice (a major and two minors, all three in play, and the table reverses two of them), and the Grand Tableau (a major plus one minor for each player in the campaign log).
The Card skins button switches between the official FFG majors and custom art for every card.
The minors and the custom art are a house addition on Arkham606, not part of the published game.
What a reading is
Before a scenario, the group draws tarot cards. Every card drawn is in play for that game: upright cards apply their upright effect, usually a help, and reversed cards apply their reversed effect, usually a hindrance. The reading type decides how many cards are drawn and who chooses which ones are reversed.
Readings for a campaign log are saved and shared with everyone in that log. A standalone reading is not filed under any log.
Observed is also not filed under a log. Draw three cards, choose one to keep upright in front of you, and the other two go back into the deck. Each other investigator ignores that card.
Saved readings without a campaign log do not last forever. A standalone reading and an Observed reading are both deleted automatically 7 days after they are drawn. Readings for a campaign log are never deleted automatically.
Readings per campaign log
Each campaign log gets one reading per scenario: as many as the campaign has scenarios, or as many scenarios as have been logged if that is more. Begin reading 2 of 8 means one is taken and this one fills the next row.
Destiny draws a card for every scenario at once, so it can only be a log's first reading.
Choice and Destiny readings are not finished until their reversed cards are chosen. If you leave before choosing, the reading stays unfinished: reopen it from the reading log to choose them. The log cannot take its next reading until you do.
Reading the reading log
Each row is one reading, in the order they were taken: Reading 1 for the first scenario, Reading 2 for the second, and so on. Each row names the scenario from the campaign log it was drawn for. The card faces show every card drawn; a reversed card lies upside down. Point at a card, or tap it, to enlarge it and read its effect. In a Destiny reading the cards run left to right: the first card is for the first scenario.
Click a row to lay the reading out on the table again. Once a reading's reversed cards are chosen, Change reversals stays on its row for 10 minutes after it was drawn; after that the reading is fixed.
The gear in a row's corner holds Reroll and Delete. The player who took a reading, or the host of the campaign log, can delete it. Deleting a reading opens its row again, and the group's next reading fills it.
Rerolls
Each campaign log has one shared pool of rerolls: one for every deck logged in the campaign, or one per player until any decks are logged. A reroll draws the same type of reading again, with the same number of cards, and the new reading replaces the old one. Reroll from the gear on a row of the reading log, or straight from the table while the reading is laid out.
Used rerolls do not come back, even when the reading they were spent on is deleted.
Friday the 13th House rule
On Friday the 13th, rerolls are free. They do not come out of the log's pool, so a row can be rerolled even when the pool is empty. The day counts while it is Friday the 13th anywhere in the world.
This is a house rule on Arkham606, not part of the published game. The reroll pool and one reading per scenario are site rules too.
